Frequent Questions

Where can I download the app and how much does it cost?

The app is currently available only for iPhone on the Apple App Store and costs $19.99. An Android version for the Google Play Store is coming soon.

Can I use the app offline or with no signal?

Yes, you can use the app offline. The app is GPS-activated, but prior to your trip. You can simply touch any of the icons to listen to any of the recordings. And be sure and remember to download the app while you have a Wi-Fi signal before you enter the park gates.

Can I play the tour audio through my car speakers or Bluetooth?

Yes, you can play the app through your vehicle's Bluetooth speakers.

What is your refund policy?

As with any app, there is no refund. The app will be updated periodically as needed over the coming months and years, so if you aren’t visiting the parks yet, the app will still work when you do, regardless of how far in the future your trip is. Also once you purchase the app, you will have it forever and can use it on multiple trips to the parks.

Why are some of the recordings overlapping?

Speed. The recordings are spaced out along the road so they do not overlap, as long as your driving speed does not exceed the posted speed limit. If you exceed the posted speed limit in some areas where the recordings are close together, the recordings may overlap. Slow down and enjoy the drive, and enjoy the recordings.

How does the app battery usage work? Will it drain my phone?

The app will be on pretty much constantly while you’re in the park and listening to the recordings. Just like any other App that needs to be on all day, it can drain your battery. You’ll probably need to plug your phone into your vehicle or have an alternate battery source for each day in the parks.

Can I start the tour from any entrance or stop, or do I have to begin at the main starting point?

You can start the tour from anywhere you want. GPS will track your location and start playing the recordings as you travel both inside and outside the Parks.

What devices are compatible with the app?

The app is currently available on iPhone (iOS). Android support is coming soon.

Why are there gold colored recordings with an arrow, and why are some of the recordings a solid blue dot?

The arrow icons are designed to be listened to in your car as you drive along past certain sites. While the blue icons generally indicate longer recordings and are designed to be played while you are stationary, either in your car or while walking through certain areas like the Old Faithful Geyser Basin.

How It Works

Turn your drive through Yellowstone and Grand Teton into an unforgettable guided experience. The YDG App uses your phone’s GPS to automatically play audio stories, tips, and insights as you travel through the parks and surrounding areas—no searching, tapping, or reading while you drive. Simply follow the route and let the app bring the landscape to life as you go.

Blue icons on the map

Along the way, you’ll also see blue Icons on the map. These mark special stops where you can dive deeper into the places you’re visiting. Many of these icons include guided walking tours, such as the famous geyser basins at Old Faithful and Norris Geyser Basin, where the app escorts you step by step while sharing fascinating geology, history, and stories.

I had been visiting the national park with my friend few weeks ago, we saw a lot of nice things but that one is gorgeous !

Self-guided walking tours

The blue icons also unlock self-guided walking tours through the towns of Jackson and West Yellowstone, helping you discover hidden gems, local history, and notable landmarks you might otherwise miss.

With the YDG App, your phone becomes a personal tour guide—making every mile through Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and the surrounding areas richer, easier, and far more memorable.
